New York City Mayor Eric Adams expressed his desire to phase out the vaccine mandate in the coming weeks. A move that would allow Kyrie Irving to play in-home games with the Brooklyn Nets.
Mayor Adams discussed the process during a press conference earlier today.
“Yes, I can’t wait to get it done… I’m not going to get ahead of the science because I’m ready to get ahead of all of this & get back to a level of normalcy. We’re moving in the right direction. We’re going to do it in a safe way,” Adams told reporters.
Last week, Adams reacted to NBA Commissioner Adam Silver’s comment about the mandate, saying it was an “oddity” that hometeam players, like Kyrie Irving, are banned from playing home while players from visiting teams, like Justin Holiday of the Kings, can play.
Mayor Adams said the rule was “unfair” jokingly saying, “I’m not sure if a Boston fan created this rule. I don’t know,” a light jab at former Mayor Bill de Blasio, whose administration wrote the regulation as de Blasio is known to be a fan of the Red Sox.
