On Wednesday, authorities revealed that a California couple murdered their adopted children and lied to detectives for three months about their disappearance.
Kern District Attorney Cynthia Zimmer told reporters that the children‘s bodies still haven‘t been found, a grand jury voted last week to indict the Wests.
“This morning, I’m saddened to announce that the investigation has revealed that Orrin and Orson West are deceased,” she said. “The investigation had also revealed that they died three months before their adoptive parents reported them missing.”
According to the DA, a week later, information surfaced that led police to Bakersfield, a town about 60 miles away from California City, where the Wests used to live.
Greg Terry, a Bakersfield police officer, discussed what began as a missing children’s case that ended tragically.
On Thursday, the couple is scheduled to be arraigned on charges including murder, child abuse, and falsely reporting an emergency. The specific allegations were not released, but authorities claimed over 50 witnesses testified.
“This is not the outcome that we and so many had hoped and prayed for over the last year,” he said.
