After a long two-year hiatus, the Essence Festival is returning in person with some iconic talent and legendary entertainers. The lineup includes Janet Jackson, Nicki Minaj, Kevin Hart, New Edition, and many more!
The pandemic caused the famous New Orleans-based festival to pause in-person events and move to virtual settings. The festival will return this summer now that COVID numbers have remained stable and significantly low.
Other artists performing include Jazmine Sullivan, Chloe x Halle, Summer Walker, The Isley Brothers, and DJ D-Nice. The festival will return June 30-July 3, and proof of full vaccination status is required to attend.

Essence CEO Caroline Wanga expressed her excitement for the return of the event. “As the nation’s largest festival by per day attendance, the ESSENCE Festival of Culture is a staple that celebrates community and empowers equity. We are excited to welcome the family back live to New Orleans and thrilled to connect with more of our diasporic family through new digital experiences.”
