“The attack was apparently prompted by a comment on Facebook,” Stephens said in the release.
NJ.com reported that one of the stabbing victims had reposted an alert on Facebook posted by authorities about Arrington being wanted in connection with a previous shooting and sexual assault.
Deputy Chief Assistant Prosecutor Justin Edwab said in the release “The loss of three lives and the anguish caused by this defendant is unfathomable,”
According to Edwab, on Nov. 5, 2016, Arrington broke into the Whitehurst’s home in Newark with a loaded firearm and tortured nine residents by stabbing them with kitchen knives.
McBurroughs, a college student who was present at the time of the shooting, was also shot and killed and pronounced dead at the scene.
The children’s 29-year-old mother, as well as a 13-year-old set of twins were saved by emergency responders.
