Police are looking for a Staten Island, New York teenager who dropped a BB gun while playing with his friend inside of his high school.
The incident occurred at around 11:00 a.m. Tuesday morning at Port Richmond High School in Elm Park. Surveillance video shows the unknown student getting a piggyback ride from a female student and recording it. At some point during the fun, a gun fell out of his backpack. He quickly retrieved it from the ground and tucked it in his waistband. A school security guard and police officer witnessed the moment and tried to detain the young man. However, he was able to push past them and flee the scene. No one was injured during the incident.
The NY Daily News reported that the weapon was a BB gun. However, other news sources have called it a real gun, while some admit they are still unsure.Â
“If it was real, it could’ve gone off when it hit the ground,” said a law enforcement source who was not identified.
School safety officers searched the premises, but the teen and the gun were nowhere to be found. Silive.com listed the teen’s age as 17, but his identity remains undisclosed as authorities work to locate him.
Following the incident, the school safety officers used detector wands on each student arriving on Wednesday.
