Six college students overdosed on fentanyl-laced cocaine while partying on spring break in Florida.
Six men, all in their 20s, booked an Airbnb in Wilton Manors, and this Friday, paramedics came to the home to find them in a state of cardiac arrest. The New York Post reports two of the men were in critical condition. One of the men has been treated and released, Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue Chief Stephen Gollan told NBC Miami.
There are no details on what college the men attend.
Gollan told WPLG that “Narcan was deployed as quickly as possible.” Narcan reverses the effects of opioid overdoses. The students overdosed on cocaine that was laced with fentanyl, which is a synthetic opioid.
“These are healthy young adults, college students in the prime of their life,” Gollan said. “Getting this drug into their system, it’s unknown what the recovery will be on the critical individual.”
Wilton Manors police released a statement warning others in response to the incident. “WMPD wants to warn spring breakers about the dangers of using illicit drugs & to avoid mixing drugs with alcohol or other forms of drugs,” department officials tweeted, The New York Post reports. “Protect yourself from the dangers of fentanyl.”
