A college student in North Carolina had a fantastic birthday after she bought her first lottery ticket and won $100,000.
19-year-old Laniah Ashley treated herself to a $20 100X The Cash scratch-off ticket and won.
The freshman at the University of North Carolina Wilmington was home in Clinton for Spring Break when she celebrated her birthday with her grandparents. When they returned from dinner, she sat down and scratched the ticket and couldn’t believe her eyes.
“At first, I kept it to myself because I didn’t want to sound crazy,” Ashley said. “I was too excited to believe it was true. I kept looking at the numbers and reading the rules over and over again. I was too stunned to speak.”
The biology major received $71,016 after taxes and said she plans to use the money to attend medical school and to help her grandparents.
