Authorities made an arrest Friday in the case that saw several West Point cadets taken to the hospital after overdosing on fentanyl-laced cocaine at an Airbnb while on spring break.
According to the Wilton Manors Police Department, six men and one woman overdosed on the drugs. Two victims were listed in critical condition on ventilators. Two other victims were listed as stable, one in good condition, and another was treated and released.
Authorities told the Associated Press that an arrest was made Friday but did not identify the suspect. West Point officials said they are also investigating the incident.
“This incident serves as a stark reminder to all, especially those visiting for Spring Break, of the deadly impacts of Fentanyl,” said the Wilton Manors police in a statement.
The students had traveled to South Florida from New York for spring break. The rental property was full of people when some of the partygoers began snorting drugs. They overdosed immediately, with some of the attendees performing CPR and exposing themselves to the deadly fentanyl.
“I saw four people getting pulled out on stretchers; their arms were just flopping. They were totally unconscious,” neighbor Cub Larkin told WVSN.
Some of the cadets played on the West Point football team. One of the football players was among those hospitalized.
