Delonte West, who last appeared in an NBA game back in 2012 with the Dallas Mavericks, tried out for the BIG3 on Saturday.Â
West, who has battled addiction and legal woes, has been training for the last month at the Pat The Roc Basketball Academy in Gaithersburg, Maryland. The training has reportedly gone well.Â
Apparently, West’s tryout went well enough that he was invited to attend a combine in May, according to CBS Sports. The BIG3, a 3-on-3 league, will feature mostly retired NBA stars. Last season, players like Joe Johnson, Leandro Barbosa, and Reggie Evans participated.
This update on the 38-year-old West is good news after his public struggles with addiction and bipolar disorder. In January of 2020, video footage surfaced of the former player being attacked in his hometown of Washington D.C. That same year, he was seen panhandling in Texas.
With the help of Maverick’s owner Mark Cuban, West was reunited with his family and went to rehab.Â
West seems to be headed in the right direction.
