A fourth shot of the COVID-19 vaccine might be needed, says Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla.
We’ve got the new COVID-19 Pfizer-BioNTech pills and a lot of the country is vaccinated with a booster shot for the virus. However, Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla says it might be time to consider a fourth shot to ward off more infections.
“Right now, the way that we have seen, it is necessary, a fourth booster right now. The protection that you are getting from the third, it is good enough, actually quite good for hospitalizations and deaths. It’s not that good against infections,” Bourla told “Face the Nation” during an interview.
“Early and preliminary data” Pfizer gathered showed a fourth dose would also target the Omicron variant.
“We will continue to collect and assess all available data and remain in open dialogue with regulators and health authorities to help inform a COVID-19 vaccine strategy as the virus evolves,” said Pfizer spokesperson Steven Danehy in a statement.
The company has submitted the data to the Food and Drug Administration in an effort to push for a fourth dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
