Virtual reality entertainment systems could be the next feature implemented in cars.
On March 12, startup company Holoride announced it’s working on “turning vehicles into moving theme parks” by installing VR headset entertainment systems cars, starting with select Audi SUVs and sedans. CNN Business reports that VR systems could be in cars by this summer.
Holoride says Audi passengers will be able to eperienve their virtual reality experience not only with the help of virtual reality technology but also their real-life car ride using motion-synchronization technology. Holoride says the technology will go along with the length of the trip a person is on and will give people the ability to check into offices, take work calls or fly over a rainforest. It appears Holoride plans to make money off the amount of time people spend in cars.
“We are always open to working with other automotive car manufacturers and hope to make as many vehicles Holoride-capable as possible,” Rudolf Baumeister, the company’s director of marketing and communications, told CNN Business. “[W] e’ve developed our technology so that the real world and virtual world are synced,” Baumeister said. “This means that what you see and what you feel lineup with almost no latency — this reduces motion sickness.”
