Robin Thicke gets high. Any true fan of his would know that. Heck, I knew that from the minute I heard his song “Cocaine” back in 2006. I guess he didn’t realize that his extra curricular activities would come back to bite him some day.
You may recall Marvin Gaye’s estate is suing Robin Thicke and Pharrell, claiming Thicke’s hit “Blurred Lines” is a blatant rip-off of Gaye’s “Got To Give It Up.” In interviews Robin told the media that he assisted Pharrell in writing the track but now he’s singing a bit of a different tune. According to Robin, he was high on prescription drugs and alcohol during the writing of the song and in interviews following its release. “I don’t recall many things that I said. In fact, I was quite surprised when I read them back sometimes,” he said of some of the interviews he did at the time, “Every day I woke up, I’d take a Vicodin to start the day and then I’d fill up a water bottle with vodka and drink it before and during my interviews.”
Robin also divulged to his lawyers why he took partial credit for “Blurred Lines” saying, “After making six albums that I wrote and produced myself, the biggest hit of my career was written and produced by somebody else and I was jealous and I wanted some of the credit. The reality is, is that Pharrell had the beat and he wrote almost every single part of the song.” In Pharrell’s deposition back in April he added that without Robin’s vocals “It wouldn’t be what it was — what it is today.”
As far as why Paula left him, Robin says it was because he wasn’t completely honest with her and by the time he decided to be, it was too late. When asked if he considered himself an “honest person” Robin replied, “No. That’s why I’m separated.” He went on to say, Later, he was asked if he’s selective about when to tell the truth. “Absolutely not,” he replied. “I told my wife the truth. That’s why she left me.”
Is Robin sober now? Well, during his deposition back in April he told attorneys that he’s halfway there. He stopped taking Vicodin but is still drinking. “My sobriety of is off Vicodin,” he said at the time. “When your wife leaves you, it gives you good reason to sober up.”
Robin definitely seems to be going through it.
