Despite all that’s going on between Russia and Ukraine, a Papa John’s franchisee says their Russian locations will remain open.
On Tuesday, “master franchisee” Christopher Wynne says he’s showing “compassion” towards the Russian residents.
“The best thing I can do as an individual is show compassion for the people, my employees, franchisees, and customers. Without judging them because of the politicians in power,” Wynn’s said.
Wynne also says that his businesses have been operating at a regular pace and the foot traffic hasn’t died down.
“The vast majority of Russian people are very clearheaded and understand the dark gravity of the situation they’re in. And, at the end of the day, they appreciate a good pizza,” Wynne added.
The 190 restaurant locations are owned by Russians through a franchise agreement with PJ Western, a company founded by Wynne in 2006. Later, Wynne’s company acquired the master franchise for Papa John’s Russia when there were only four locations available. Since then, PJ Western has expanded the business to more than 240 locations in various countries.
A representative for Papa John’s International says it “is not currently receiving any royalties from these franchised stores in Russia.” They also added that the franchise does not “own or operate” any of the locations in the country.
