Tamron Hall's New Crime Series Highlights Victims of 'Someone They Knew'

Tamron Hall talks about her newest show, Someone They Knew, on Court TV. The show premiered on March 6 and has a special place in her heart as she experienced her trauma with domestic violence in her family.

The show tackles stories with an interesting angle, victims knowing their killer. Hall’s sister, Renate, was murdered in 2004 and was a victim of domestic violence. Though Renate’s boyfriend was the last person that saw her before her death, he was not charged with her death. Hall decided to bring the matter to national TV when she shared her heartbreaking story. Now, Someone They Knew will get attention to the unheard stories.

Hall says, “At any point, any of us could fall in love or befriend another adult who doesn’t mean well by us. With this show, the person’s in the house. It’s not the person lurking in the garage. This is level one of your home. That is so fascinating and eye-opening.”

She continues, “I never want someone to believe that these shows don’t have a purpose. This is not just for us to sit on Sunday, turn on our TV, and ooh ah at someone’s tragedy. Not at all. There’sThere’s a connective tissue with all of these stories and even with my sister’s case where you ask yourself, What causes someone through greed, jealousy, and envy to carry out such acts and what can we learn from these things?“

Essence spoke with Hall, and she mentioned how she likes to keep her sister, Renate, on her mind as she highlights these stories of black women. She referred to the show as a “deeply personal” connection.

Someone They Knew airs on Sundays at 9 pm on Court TV.
