The dispute between Iggy Azalea and her former boyfriend and business partner Hefe Wine has a new chapter. TMZ reported that Hefe Wine has dug up a contract he says gives him rights over her image. This comes days after Iggy’s lawyers warned Vivid Entertainment not to use her name on an alleged video.
According to TMZ, Iggy signed a lengthy agreement with Hefe Wine in 2009 that gave him exclusive rights, for music video purposes, to manufacture, sell, distribute and advertise recordings that embody visual images. Hefe Wine reportedly believes that language could extend to any footage paired with music. TMZ also reported that he claims the agreement lets him create and maintain a website to market her work. He does not claim to own the name “Iggy Azalea” itself. Hefe Wine has also reportedly released a few songs that use her older vocals.
Iggy’s side has not agreed with any of this. Her reps previously told the Huffington Post that it was “categorically not Iggy Azalea in the video in question,” and her lawyers later said any such video may have been made without her knowledge or consent. We have not seen a public response from Iggy’s team to Hefe Wine’s contract claim.
Baller Alert first brought you Hefe Wine’s story. In our earlier coverage, we reported on a conversation with him, long before this story broke wide, in which he said he funded and developed Iggy and still held paperwork from their dealings. His contract claim now lines up with what he told Baller Alert at the time. We will keep following it.
