Jussie Smollett Reflects on 2019 Hate Crime Scandal: "I Felt Very Disconnected From That"

Now that Jussie Smollett is out of jail as he waits out the appeal process, his lawyer is going after the two brothers who helped him carry out his hate crime hoax.

Smollett’s attorney Mark Geragos has filed a defamation lawsuit against Abimbola and Olabinjo Osundairo. In the court docs, Geragos claims the brothers accused him of making inaccurate comments about their involvement in the hoax hate crime. The brothers initially filed a lawsuit claiming that the lawyer and his associate, Tina Glandian, wrongly accused them of carrying out a hate crime against Smollett. That original suit stems from Glandian appearing on the “Today” show in 2019 and stating that she saw a video of the brothers in whiteface doing a “Joker monologue.”

However, Geragos fired back, calling the suit “fabricated,” and maintained he had nothing to do with the comments in question. The Osundairos were recently informed that they can still take legal action against the associate who made damning comments about them and in return Smollett’s attorney filed suit.

Smollett is currently free from jail as his case makes its way through the appeal process. His family now claims that he did not get adequately treated because the Chicago police mishandled his case.
