Due to rising gas costs, two states have temporarily suspended their gas taxes.

Last Friday, lawmakers in Georgia and Maryland suspended the taxes, providing relief to drivers in both states.

Maryland was the first to act, suspending its gas tax for 30 days until April 16.

After prices rose by almost $0.40 in one week to an average of $3.85, Old Line State drivers will temporarily save $0.36 per gallon on gas and $0.37 per gallon on diesel, CNN reports.

In Georgia, the governor’s office announced that the gas tax would be waived through May 31, saving drivers $0.29 per gallon on gas and $0.32 per gallon on diesel.

As of Monday, gas prices in Georgia averaged $4.11 a gallon.

According to AAA, gas prices have skyrocketed to a national average of $4.25 per gallon.

“This is, of course, not a cure-all, and market instability will continue to lead to fluctuations in prices, but we will continue to use every tool at our disposal to provide relief for Marylanders,” Hogan said in a statement.
