A Georgia woman was arrested after an American bulldog attacked her infant great-granddaughter.
Authorities were called to a residence roughly 10 miles outside of Augusta. According to NBC News, Migdelia Guadalupe, 56, was renting the home and caring for her 7- month-old great-granddaughter, Serenity.
A fire team treated Guadalupe and Serenity for multiple injuries, including puncture wounds and lacerations. However, once authorities arrived at the scene, baby Serenity was not breathing. The two were immediately transported to a nearby hospital, where Serenity was pronounced dead at 6:45 pm.
Guadalupe was later released from the hospital the same day but was taken into custody for methamphetamine possession and second-degree murder.
According to Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, Maj. Steve Morris says, “There are additional details that led to these charges that will not be released at this time.” Guadalupe is currently incarcerated and being held without bond.
