In Las Vegas, a jury has awarded a special education teacher an $8 million settlement after he was permanently injured from being served cleaning chemicals instead of beer at a casino bar.

On Friday, Lon Enwright’s attorney said his client used to work as a wine steward at Las Vegas Strip restaurants but lost his sense of taste following the injuries sustained at Barley‘s Casino & Brewing Company in Henderson.

Despite having stomach and esophageal ulcers, Enwright continues to teach and coach basketball. However, his attorney characterized the jury award as compensation for “the loss of enjoyment of life.”

Before trial, Enwright‘s lawyers said Barley‘s admitted liability and offered $300,000 in damages.

In the lawsuit, Enwright claims he was sick and convulsing after getting a taste of Honey Blonde ale on tap and being served chemicals usually used to clean beer faucets and lines.

According to his lawyers, the bartenders knew that the beer lines were being cleaned.
