Everyone has an opinion on the Ray Rice incident, even fellow professional athletes. Paul George, who should be spending his free time nursing his injury and saving coins for his break-baby child support payments, took to Twitter today in defense of Ray Rice and only made matters worse with a few dumb tweets. Similar to Ceelo’s “It’s not rape if you don’t remember” tweets, George tweeted “I don’t condone hittin women or think it’s coo but if she ain’t trippin then I ain’t trippin”. He goes on to say “If you in a relationship and a woman hit you first and attacking YOU, then you obviously ain’t beating HER” and went on to tweet his support of Ray Rice.
Here’s the problem, you can’t make up parts of a scenario to fit your beliefs. Sometimes it just is what it is. Yes, it is wrong for men to hit women. Equally wrong for women to hit men HOWEVER, do we see Janay beating Ray? Nope. She admitted to spitting on him, he followed that action by spitting on her twice and hitting her in the elevator. She hit him, he knocked her unconscious and drug her lifeless body across the floor like yesterday’s trash. THIS is what we know because THIS is what we see on camera and neither party has said otherwise. We don’t see her attack him first so Mr. George, rather than worry about who beat who, stick to worrying about beating this child support case of yours and pray no one places their hands on your daughter whom you choose not to acknowledge.
It wasn’t long before Twitter followers gathered Paul George right together and he deleted the tweets, following them with an apology. “Let me apologize to the women and to the VICTIMS of domestic violence. People my intent was not to downplay the situation…” Don’t think Twitter followers were the only ones displeased with Paul George’s tweets. Pacers President Larry Bird had a few choice words also. “Paul George’s tweets from earlier were thoughtless and without regard to the subject of domestic violence and its seriousness in society,” Bird said in a statement. “We have talked to Paul to strongly express our displeasure and made it clear that the NBA and the Pacers’ organization will not condone or tolerate remarks of this nature. Paul understands that he was wrong and why his tweets were so inappropriate and is very apologetic.”
In another statement George apologizes again saying, “I want to apologize to all victims of domestic abuse for my insensitive tweets,” George said in the statement. “They were obviously without proper understanding of the seriousness of the situation and I sincerely regret my poor choice of words.”
And this is why some people have to just stay off of Twitter.
