Donald Trump has already made it pretty clear how he feels about the country of Mexico and its people, so it’s not surprising that he was not pleased with the PGA Tour’s recent announcement that they plan to move one of their tournaments to Mexico in 2017.
For over 50 years, a PGA golf tournament has been played at the Trump National Doral, a golf course in Miami owned by Trump. However, earlier this week, the PGA Tour announced its plans to change the location to Club de Golf Chapultapec, which is just outside of Mexico City.
“I just heard that the PGA Tour is taking their tournament out of Miami and moving it to Mexico,” Trump said on Tuesday. “It’s at Doral … they used one of my places. They’re moving their tournament; it’s the Cadillac World Golf Championship. And Cadillac’s been a great sponsor, but they’re moving it to Mexico. They’re moving it to Mexico City which, by the way, I hope they have kidnapping insurance. It is so sad when you look at what’s going on with our country.”
Sources say that Cadillac, the previous sponsor for the event, did not renew its sponsorship and that’s what caused the PGA Tour to have to relocate. However, the PGA has also publicly denounced Trump’s comments about Mexicans, Muslims, and other groups in the past, and that could have certainly played a part in their decision as well.
