A rapper accused J.Cole and Dreamville Records of stealing his but quickly retracted his statement.

On Thursday, Dreamville dropped a mixtape called “D-Day: A Gangsta Grillz Mixtape” which featured the song “Stick.” However, the following day, a rapper named Rockstar JT alleged that the Dreamville team stole the song from him.

“In 2020 I dropped STICK … 2022 @dreamville dropped STICK,” JT wrote on his Instagram. “I know they are way bigger artist than me but these songs sound identical just structured different .. this is not for clout but do y’all hear it?”

Rockstar’s tweet went viral and caught the attention of the record label. It’s unclear how the conversation went, but Rockstar didn’t hesitate to give an update on the situation. Rockstar claimed that he personally spoke with a rep at Dreamville who told him their song was recorded in 2019, a year before he released his song.

“I talked with the team behind the song,” Rockstar wrote. “And they were in contact with dreamville’s team and come to find out they had their song recorded in 2019 it just wasn’t released. My goal is never to get clout or come up off another man. Coming from where I come from we work hard that’s it. I posted the post last night & this morning I found out when it was recorded. I respect Dreamville and let’s just move on with more great hits.”
