Twitter announced that it is rolling out a feature that allows users to remove themselves from conversations they do not wish to be involved in.

Unmentioning, as Twitter calls it, will allow users to leave a conversation when someone has tagged their @ Twitter handle.

In a tweet, Twitter said it’s “a way to help protect your peace.”

When an @ Twitter handle is tagged, the user will be able to access a dropdown that gives a “Leave this conversation option.”

In addition to preventing someone from tagging the user again in a conversation, Twitter said the tool would block further notifications regarding the exchange.

As of now, Twitter is “experimenting” with the unmentioning tool, and it is already available for some users on the website, but it is unclear when the feature will be available on the app.
