Friday, a leading member of the “Proud Boys” pleaded guilty to two felony charges for his participation in the US Capitol attack on January 6, 2021.
34-year-old Charles Donohoe is the first person within the Proud Boys’ leadership ranks to plead guilty. He has also agreed to assist the Justice Department’s investigation against the pro-Donald Trump group.
Donohoe pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges to obstruct an official proceeding and assaulting an officer. He could also assist prosecutors by providing vital information about what the top members of the organization had planned for the January 6th attack.
Donohoe led the North Caroline chapter of the Proud Boys. He could now face more than seven years in prison, according to the plea hearing read aloud in court. He’s also agreed to pay $2,000 in restitution for damage done to the Capitol.
