Issa Rae Added to the Cast of the New Barbie Movie

Issa Rae is one of the most recent additions to the upcoming Barbie film.

In addition to Issa and Michael Cera, America Ferrera, Simu Liu, Kate McKinnon, and Will Ferrell were added to the official cast, including Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as Barbie and Ken.

According to reports, the production for the film has already begun in the UK, with Oscar Nominee Greta Gerwig directing and Robbie producing and starring in the movie.

Though the movie’s plot is not yet known, Robbie told The Hollywood Reporter that she wanted to challenge people’s expectations for the movie.

She said, “The name itself, people immediately have an idea of, ‘Oh, Margot is playing Barbie, I know what that is,’ but our goal is to be like, ‘Whatever you’re thinking, we’re going to give you something different –– the thing you didn’t know you wanted.’”

Barbie is expected to be released in 2023.
