A shocking attempted sexual assault took place in broad daylight over the weekend, and investigators are eager to catch the culprit.
The disturbing incident happened on Sunday at around 12:15 p.m. An unidentified 29-year-old woman was leaving Grand Army Plaza 2 and 3 subway station in Brooklyn when a male suspect followed her. Once close enough, the assailant began masturbating near the woman. Before she could get away, he grabbed her and forced her onto a bench. The man tried sexually assaulting the victim by pulling his genitalia toward her while forcibly holding her head. He eventually gave up and took off running through Prospect Park. The woman immediately reported the attack to the 78th Precinct. She told law enforcement that she did not know her attacker.
Authorities released a surveillance image of the suspect in hopes that someone would recognize him. In the still image, he is seen wearing a striped cap, sunglasses, gray sweatshirt, gray mask, and white pants inside the subway station. Witnesses are encouraged to contact NYPD’s Crime Stoppers.
NYC public transportation has been plagued with perverted instances. In March, an unidentified man masturbated in front of a 20-year-old female passenger aboard a southbound seven train traveling toward Jackson Heights.
The victim in Sunday’s attack did not sustain any physical injuries.
