Twitter calls out Miona Bell from “90 Day Fiancé for allegedly “black fishing.”
“Blackfishing” is a term to describe someone who is non-Black who is pretending to be Black or a mixed-race Black person. When someone is “Blackfishing” they will aesthetically mock historically and culturally Black features by using tanning, makeup, or plastic surgery to emulate the features on their bodies.
The Kardashian-Jenners, Iggy Azalea and several Instagram models have been accused of or called out for allegedly practicing blackfishing. The latest is 23-year-old Serbian 90 Day Fiancé star Miona Bell. Since Bell got on the show, viewers have taken issue with her over her appearance and are speaking out about it online.
“Miona blackfishing like crazy! And when they called her out, she gon say she don’t wanna spoil the mystery,” said one Twitter user.
“I legit thought Miona was biracial at first. But nope, she’s just blackfishing. SMH Already don’t like her #90DayFiance,” said another user on Twitter.
On Thursday, April 21, Bell responded to the backlash by saying, “I’m Serbian!”
“I will represent myself as such!” Bell continued. “I love my country and my people and I’m born and raised there. I thought there is no need to clarify this because in my country we don’t nonchalantly abuse other people without knowing anything about them. But let me say this, I don’t have only Serbian genes, based oy DNA test I have both Mexican and Middle Eastern background myself as Serbian because that’s my culture.”
