Cam Newton was recently dragged by women for his seemingly sexist comments. Now, the pro footballer is clarifying his remarks.
In case you missed it, the former Carolina Panthers quarterback appeared on the “Million Dollaz Worth of Game” podcast earlier this month, where he spoke on what it means to be a quality woman.
“I think a lot of times when you get that aesthetic of: ‘I’m a boss b***h, Imma this, Imma that.’ No, baby. But you can’t cook. You don’t know when to be quiet. You don’t know how to allow a man to lead,” Newton said during the show. Naturally, social media was not feeling the apparent belittlement of women.
The backlash became so profound that the 32-year-old decided to address the matter in an eight-minute video on Friday titled, “Let Me Explain My Comments.” He says that his words were taken out of context.
“I never once had this sexist mentality. I never had this dictatorship mentality towards women,” he maintained before adding. “That narrative being even highlighted is completely against everything that I believed in and do believe in.”
Newton admits that he should have gone into further detail when speaking on the matter. He says the short clip that went viral did not show how he also spoke on “what a f**k boy is” and other issues facing relationships.
While he stood by what he said and did not apologize, Newton says his intention was never to “demonize or to shrink the woman’s power in America.”
