An Ohio father is facing some serious charges after his 10-year-old daughter showed up to school with marijuana edibles that she believed were Easter candy.

The incident unfolded last Friday (April 22nd) when five students at Upper Arlington elementary school in Columbus fell ill during their lunch period. Upper Arlington Police and Fire responded to the school, where they discovered that the children had ingested marijuana edibles. All of them were rushed to the hospital for a wide range of side effects, including hallucinations, elevated heart rates, and nausea.

According to reports, the 10-year-old daughter of Scott C. Macre had taken the weed candy to school after finding it inside her home. The child was unaware that the candy was laced with drugs when she located it inside a jar in the kitchen cabinet. She believed that it was leftover Easter candy. Wanting to share with her friends, she took the treats to school, unaware that it would make them all sick.

Macre told authorities he purchased the edibles in 2018 for a medical condition while in Colorado. He confessed that he ate the weed gummies on the night of April 21st while drunk and fell asleep. Once he woke up the following day, he placed them in the cabinet before leaving for work and before the child left for school. After being notified about the youngsters ingesting the candy, he rushed home from work and instructed detectives to wait outside. He then went into his home and quickly dumped the remaining edibles in the garbage disposal.

Macre has been charged with endangering children, possession of drugs, and obstruction. It is unclear if the school reprimanded his daughter.
