Travis Scott’s legal team is criticizing the documentary makers of the fatal events that took place at the Astroworld music festival, describing it as a desperate money grab.
The documentary “Concert Crush: The Travis Scott Festival Tragedy” will be released on Friday.
AP reported that the film’s director, Charlie Minn, didn’t intend for the documentary to be a smear campaign against Scott but rather a recount of the events that led up to the tragic day.
However, Scott’s team is calling it a “… farce financed by and containing content from members of the plaintiff’s legal teams, who, weeks after a tragedy, sought to exploit and benefit financially from it, with the clear goals of making money and swaying future juries and public opinion.”
They also criticized Minn, saying, “It’s a profit play and a publicity stunt, with no support from the film industry, no distribution, and a director with no respect from his field which has been termed a “trauma pornographer.”In the past, Minn told Houston Press that he was critical of Scott’s actions at the festival, saying, “I think he’d be a lot more nervous if he didn’t know the mayor and police chief. The police had all the authority to stop things, and the show should have been stopped by the third song. It was a dangerous, evil joke.”
Several concertgoers from that day are featured in the documentary, with the majority blaming Travis for not seeing what was going on in the audience.
According to TMZ, numerous Houston police officers were observed watching Travis and Drake perform while things in the audience deteriorated, seemingly unaware of the gravity of the situation.
Last year, it was reported that ten individuals died from “compression asphyxia.” The inquiry into who or what was responsible for the killings is ongoing, but Travis and promoter Live Nation have been named in multiple lawsuits.
Travis hasn’t performed on a large stage since, although he’ll be headlining Primavera Sound and several other US events next year.
