Colin Kaepernick may be calling Las Vegas home soon! Las Vegas Raiders‘ owner, Mark Davis, says he would welcome the former NFL player with “open arms.”
During an episode of Race in America: A Candid Conversation, home of NBC Sports production, the owner talked about how Kaepernick deserves a chance. According to NBC Sports, the TV program hosts “raw discussions with athletes, politicians, musicians, and influencers on the fight for racial equality in America.”
Kaepernick has been blackballed in the football world since his protest during the National Anthem during a game. Instead of standing, he kneeled with grace to protest police brutality and racial inequality in America in 2016. Ever since then, he’s been cast out of the NFL.
Davis says, “I believe in Colin Kaepernick. He deserves every chance in the world to become a quarterback in the National Football League. I still stand by it. If our coaches and general manager want to bring him in or want him to be the quarterback on this team, I would welcome him with open arms.”
Though he would welcome Kaepernick, he made it clear football decisions should be made by football people insinuating that the general manager, Dave Ziegler, and head coach Josh McDaniels would have to make the call.
Kaepernick hasn’t played in a while but has hosted multiple workouts and a throwing exhibition at the University of Michigan. He was formally invited by a former coach with the 49ers, Jim Harbaugh.
After the throwing exhibition, Kaepernick even commented on his playing ability, saying, “I can help make you a better team. I can help you win games. I know right now, the situation likely won’t allow me to come in and step into a starting role. I know I’ll be able to work my way to that, though, and show that very quickly.”
It’s important to note that the NFL has publicly changed its opinion on Black Lives Matter since Kaepernick kneeled. Since George Floyd’s brutal murder, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said, “we were wrong for not listening to NFL players earlier and encourage all to speak out and peacefully protest.”
Kaepernick remains without an opportunity to play the game he loves.
