Apparently, teaching while faded is a big no-no, and one California educator learned the hard way.
On Wednesday, Teagen Leonhart of San Anselmo, California, arrived at her job at Terra Linda High School under the influence. A school administrator went to Leonhart’s classroom and noticed that she appeared intoxicated. She was quickly removed from the classroom, and the administrator phoned the police at 11:51 a.m. to inform them of the teacher’s condition.
Leonhart initially denied that she’d had a drink that day. However, after consenting to an alcohol screening, police found that she had an alcohol limit of at least 0.24 percent, three times the legal driving limit. The 46-year-old finally admitted that she’d had a drink that morning, though it is unclear if she had it before or after arriving at the school. To add to her tipsy troubles, an officer certified as a Drug Recognition Expert discovered that Leonhart was also under the influence of a prescription drug and marijuana.
The English teacher was arrested for suspicion of child endangerment and transported to jail. She was booked at Marin County Jail and has since been released.
Teagen Leonhart is now on administrative leave as the investigation continues.
