Controversial self-proclaimed image consultant and relationship commentator Kevin Samuels has died.
Rumors of his death began circulating on social media Thursday and Samuels mother, Beverly Samuels-Burch, confirmed his death in a NBC news report released Friday.
While Samuels-Burch declined to release specifics surrounding her son’s death, she did confirm she learned of his death from social media.
“That was a terrible thing for social media to put that out. I didn’t even know. I hadn’t even been notified,” she said in a phone call on Friday. “All I’m doing is requesting that people pray for us.”
According to a police report, officers responded to a 911 call placed by a woman identified as “Ms. Ortencia Alcantara” who was with Samuels at his apartment. The woman told cops Samuels complained about chest pains and that she attempted to help him but he fell on top of her. When cops arrived, first responders were performing CPR on Samuels. He was taken to Piedmont Hospital, police said. As of Friday morning, the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office said it could not confirm or deny any information.
Samuels, who often sparked outrage for his ‘dating and relationship advice’ amassed a huge following over the pass few years. He was often blasted online for his misogynistic rhetoric, most recently labeling unmarried women who are 35 and older “leftovers.”
He was 57.
