A Florida middle school teacher has been fired after she spoke to her students about her pansexual identity.
Casey Scott was once an art instructor at Trafalgar Middle School in Cape Coral, Florida, who was fired over her decision to discuss her sexual orientation with her students. The New York Post reports the incident took place back in March.
After telling students about her personal life, she then instructed students to draw pictures that represent their own sexual orientations, The New York Post reports. The kids then created flags that represented their sexualities and gender identities. The images were then placed on her classroom door, but administrators later took them down.
“A discussion happened in class, and because of that, now I’m fired,” Scott told NBC2. She added that administrators told that it would be in her best interest “to get rid of them now.” While she says some students understood the assignment, she took the photos down and threw them in the trash.
Scott’s contract was later terminated as a first-year teacher.
