Muni Long discussed her struggles with Lupus and why she canceled her 2022 tour.
Muni recently sat down with The Breakfast Club morning show. While there, Angela asked Muni about the details surrounding her ‘One Night On Tour’ cancellation. Muni went on to discuss her health.
She revealed she contracted a bacterial infection from a microphone in 2018, and that triggered her Lupus.
“In 2018, I caught a bacterial infection from a microphone at Sayers Club,” Muni explains. “I have also have Lupus. So when you have any type of bacteria, especially in your lungs, the inflammation is crazy. So I deal with that. As I’m talking, you can hear me tryna catch my breath.”
She continued, “I deal with that on a daily basis. I take a lot of medicine to like function normally and that’s not something I normally share. Because that’s my journey, I’m not looking for sympathy.”
Muni then addresses the tour cancellation and says she needed to heal from her weak throat muscles.
“So to go on a tour and push pass my throat muscles were like weak. From just trying to breathe properly, speak properly, I just needed to heal and I was willing to do it. But my doctors and the rest of my team were like ‘this is a long game. We need you to be healthy.’ Especially with the way that I sing and the success from Hrs & Hrs, people wanna hear of that from me. So I have to be able to preserve my voice so I can do this for a very long time.”
Later in the interview, Muni said that despite the offers, she has not performed anywhere but will record in the studio. She added that she probably won’t do tours unless it’s a big offer.
