Travis Scott is giving his first televised performance since his tragic 2021 Astroworld Festival left ten attendees dead.
The “Goosebumps” rapper and producer will be performing at the 2022 Billboard Music Awards at the urging of host Sean “P. Diddy” Combs. The music mogul shared a “Breaking News” Instagram video on Monday, revealing that he told NBC he needed Scott to grace the stage.
“I made a request. I made a demand. I said, ‘my brother Travis Scott has to perform,'” he shared in the clip before stating that the network agreed.
The 31-year-old has slowly gotten back to performing following the tragedy. On Sunday, he rocked the crowd at the E11even nightclub in Miami, reciting hits “Highest in the Room,” “Pick Up the Phone,” “Goosebumps,” and others. Scott threw money into the crowd and ordered strippers to the stage during the high-energy concert. Migos star Quavo also joined his longtime friend and collaborator on stage.
Scott has kept a relatively low musical profile since the fateful music festival in November, which has sparked hundreds of lawsuits and even calls for Scott to be criminally charged.
Travis Scott has not yet commented on his Billboard return, but it will be interesting to see how the crowd receives him when he hits the stage.
The 2022 Billboard Music Awards will air live on NBC this Sunday, May 15th, 2022, at 8:00 PM EDT. The event will also live stream on Peacock.
