The sale of the Denver Broncos could break an NFL record if it sells for more than $5 billion.

Who will the next owner of the Denver Broncos be? We’re not too sure yet, but whoever it is is going to need billions. According to Pro Football Talk, approximately $5 billion, to be exact. CBS Sports reports the team is set to be sold and off the market before the 2022 NFL season.

If it’s sold for $5 billion, it could set a new record for the most money ever spent on a sports franchise. Last week, Todd Boehly, who was also reportedly interested in buying the Denver Broncos, purchased the Premier League’s Chelsea FC team for a whopping $5.22 billion.

The 46-year-old already owns the Los Angeles Dodgers, Lakers and the Sparks, so he may put his pocketbook down for a minute before making any other grand purchases. Plus, Boehly isn’t the only one who has his eyes set on the team; 9News reports there are four other groups left in the bidding process.

One of the investors includes Rob Walton, one of the most affluent men in the world. According to Forbes, he’s the 19th richest person on the globe. Other interests include 76ers co-owner Josh Harris, who is part of a bidder group that includes Magic Johnson.
