FDA Approves Latex Underwear That Prevent STI's During Oral Sex

lorals

The FDA has approved the first underwear that protects against STIs.

Lorals, a manufacturer of ultrathin underwear, has officially received its FDA certification.

On Thursday, the FDA cleared the Los Angeles-based startup approximately four years after its current CEO, Melanie Cristol, created it. The line will include bikinis and “shortie” underwear made of “ultra-thin, silky-smooth” latex.

According to the company’s website, the underwear is designed to deliver the desired experience of oral sex without skin-to-skin contact, effectively lowering the danger of STIs and hazardous pathogens.

Although clinical trials were not required, Cristol stated that the Lorals team had to demonstrate that their products were as effective as dental dams.

“We had to meet physical requirements like dimensions, thickness, elasticity, strength, and lack of holes,” Cristol told the outlet. “Then it had to be tested for compatibility with the human body. So we ran toxicity tests, irritation tests, and sensitization tests.”

Consumers can expect to pay $25 for a four-pack of  Lorals for Protection. The vanilla-scented single-use underwear will be available in sizes 0-20 to fit all body types.
