A Mississippi mother has been accused of throwing her infant on the road, killing her. Authorities say she didn’t show any “remorse.”
According to a news release from the Pearl Police Department, 20-year-old Shaylynn Jolley has been arrested and charged with capital murder after she allegedly intentionally murdered her 2-month-old baby girl, Khalysie Lashay Jolley. PEOPLE reports the mother “repeatedly and forcibly” threw the infant out of her car and onto a road in Pearl, Mississippi, last Thursday.
Police reportedly responded to 911 calls about the incident, and when they arrived at the scene, they found another woman holding a “severely injured” Khalysie. Jolley, who took off to escape into the woods, was quickly arrested. Khalysie was reportedly in critical condition and later died from her injuries on Saturday.
“The act was very deliberate and intentional. She showed no remorse throughout the day,” said police chief Dean Scott in an interview with WAPT-TV. A neighbor referred to Jolley as seemingly being a “very good mother.”
“I don’t understand. Something had to go wrong,” said the neighbor, WAPT-TV reports. “Postpartum, or something. Because she really is a very good mother.”
A GoFundMe has been created to help fund the child’s funeral. Jolley, who is alleged to be “very familiar” to narcotics officers, may receive an added felony child abuse charge. She is expected to appear in court for the first time on Tuesday.
