The Cobb County Sheriff’s Office has responded to claims about the jail conditions rapper Young Thug is currently being held in after the rapper referred to them as “tortuous.”
Last week Thugger, whose real name is Jeffrey Williams, was arrested after being included in a massive gang indictment. Police say Young Slime Life, which is founded by the rapper, is actually a criminal street gang responsible for up to 85% of the community’s crime.
Thug’s attorney’s filed an emergency bail request on Friday, claiming that the rapper was being confined in an inhumane concrete cage with no windows and was not allowed to bathe, exercise, or speak with anybody other than his lawyers.
He also complained about not being able to access the media, including radio and television.
Jail officials responded to the complaints this week saying, “This is a jail, it is a detention center. It’s not the Ritz Carlton, so you have to recognize that,” one jail official said.
Inside the jail, cameras were restricted, although one reporter did see Young Thug in isolation but was not permitted to speak to him.
The rapper is one of seven inmates being detained in solitary confinement.
Williams is being held in isolation for his own protection, according to jail officials.
