The man accused of tackling comedian Dave Chappelle during a show says the comedian’s LGBT jokes triggered him.
23-year-old Isaiah Lee discussed his case during an interview with the New York Post, in which he explained his reason for going on the stage and attacking Chappelle. He claims he was offended by Dave’s material and wanted him to know it.
Lee said, “I identify as bisexual … and I wanted him to know what he said was triggering.” He adds, “I wanted him to know that next time, he should consider first running his material by people it could affect.”
Apparently, Dave addressed his transgender controversy that night before Lee rushed the stage. The comedian talked about how he didn’t have a problem with trans people until they took his ‘Closer’ content out of context and warped it.
But that’s not the only thing that ticked Lee off. He said he was also pushed to the edge when Chappelle made homeless jokes, an experience he dealt with at a young age.
Lee says, “I’m also a single dad, and my son is five. It’s a struggle, and I wanted Dave Chappelle to know it’s not a joke.” Plus, there were reportedly jokes made earlier in the night (made by an opener) that talked about pedophilia, which triggered Lee as well. He says he was sexually abused as a minor.
Lee also talked about his injuries, “They spat on me and twisted me as if on purpose.” He also talked about having the fake-gun-turned knife on him that night, saying Chappelle asked why he did it. Lee said, “I told him my mother and grandmother, who fought for his civil rights to be able to speak, would be upset at the things he said.”
Chappelle allegedly responded by saying, “Now your story will die with you, son.”
With that being said, do you feel some topics should not be joked about?
