The 11-year-old survivor of the Robb Elementary school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, Miah Cerrillo, is detailing her accounts to CNN of going into survivor mode, smearing her friend’s blood on herself, and playing dead because she was scared that the gunman would come after her.

Miah told the outlet that she and her classmates were watching “Lilo and Stitch” in Eva Mireles and Irma Garcia’s classroom when the teachers received word that a gunman was in the building.

According to Miah, the gunman was already in front of the classroom door when one of the teachers proceeded to lock the door, then shot out the door’s window.

It all happened so quickly, she said, as the gunman entered the classroom. She told CNN that before the gunman shot one of her teachers, he stared her down and said, “Goodnight.”

Soon after, he killed the other teacher and a large number of Miah’s classmates. Bullets flew past her, she added, and shards hit her shoulders and head. The girl was taken to the hospital and treated for fragment wounds before being released.

According to Miah, the gunman entered an adjoining classroom after shooting students in her class. She claims that when the shooting stopped, the gunman began playing music, which she described as the kind you play when ” you want people to die.”

Using her dead teacher’s phone, the girl and her friend called 911 for help. She told the dispatcher, “Please send help, we’re in trouble.”
Afterward, Miah smeared her hands with the blood of one of the classmates who had died and then smeared the blood all over herself to play dead, fearing that the gunman would return to kill her and some of the other survivors.
Miah said that she and her friends lay covered in their classmate’s blood for almost 3 hours. At the time, she told CNN, she assumed the police hadn’t arrived yet.
During the interview, she explained that she overheard police waiting outside the school. When she recounted this part of the story, she broke down in tears, saying she didn’t understand why they didn’t come in and rescue them.
According to Miah’s mother, she is traumatized and now needs therapy. The family has set up a GoFundMe to help cover the cost.
As a result of what she experienced, Miah was too afraid to speak on camera or to a man, but she wanted to tell her story so people could understand what it’s like to survive a school shooting. She hopes the story can help prevent other tragedies like this from happening in the future.
