“Bridgerton” star Ruby Barker revealed she’s been being hospitalized for her mental health struggles. The 25-year-old shared on Instagram how she is doing.
After premiering in season one of Bridgerton playing Marina Thompson, Barker’s career skyrocketed. Though her career has been well, she opened up about her recent struggles. In an uplifting Instagram video, she says, “it’s time to be transparent.” She then revealed she’s been struggling since Bridgerton.
She claims that Netflix “saved” her.
“I have been really unwell for a really long time. I want to be honest with everyone. I have been struggling,” Barker says. She also says in the video that she should be discharged soon from the hospital.
“I am in hospital at the minute, and I am going to be discharged soon and hopefully get to continue with my life.”
In light of Mental Awareness Week in the UK, she captioned the post, “Mental health week is every week for me. Off my chest. I feel like I’ve not been completely honest, so this is for my followers. Time to be transparent. I’ve been struggling since Bridgerton, this is the truth.”
“Thank you all for supporting me, your love holds me up. #mentalhealthawareness”
Barker said she was ‘raged-filled’ and ‘angry’ and had ‘intergenerational trauma bundled up inside’ of her.
She adds, “I was carrying the weight of the world on my back, and now I am at the point where I have a diagnosis, and I will talk to you about that at another time. I can’t carry on the way that I’ve been carrying on. I need to change, so that’s what I am trying to do.”
She ends the video on a high note saying, “I want to survive, and I will survive. I am going to.”
