This week, DJ Quik’s son was arrested on felony murder charges following a deadly altercation.
David Blake Jr. was taken into custody after officers responded to a fight in progress. Before their arrival, authorities received another call of shots being fired at the scene. Once there, police found 33-year-old Julio Cardoza suffering from a single gunshot wound.
The man was transported to the hospital, where he died from his injuries. Following an investigation, authorities identified Blake as the suspect. He was handcuffed and arrested at 4 a.m. the day after the tragic incident.
Blake is currently held at Twin Towers Correctional Facility on a $2 million bond.
Blake is the son of DJ Quik, a famed Compton rapper and producer noted for being one of the central creators of the G-Funk sound. Before his arrest, Blake was working as a liaison for Compton Councilman Isaac Galvan.
In addition to working with Galvan, Blake also periodically performs under the rap persona, D. Blake. In October 2021, Blake released a single called “Official.”
