Remy Ma is clarifying her Doja Cat rapper comments after weeks of being dragged on social media by Doja’s faithful fanbase.
If you recall, during her appearance on Drink Champs back in March, the “Lean Back” MC gave her opinion on the “Say So” star and shared that while Doja is talented, she doesn’t consider her a rapper.
“I don’t think she’s a rapper. Let’s be clear with that. They put her in the rapper category. I don’t think she’s a rapper. But she makes dope records, and I think she’s dope,” she said during that sit-down. Remy’s comments didn’t go over well with many people, some of which thought she was hating on Doja.
This didn’t sit well with Doja, who jumped on Twitter shortly after, aiming at Remy and anyone else questioning her lyricism.
“DONT EVER FUCKIN DISRESPECT ME AS A RAPPER,” Doja tweeted at the time “AFTER THE LAST SONG I DROPPED YOU WILL RESPECT MY PEN AND THATS FUCKIN THAT.”

Fast forward to Remy’s recent interview with Black Compass, the 42-year-old cleared up her remarks, sharing that she was not trying to offend Doja.
“I thought I was giving her a compliment. Her whole entourage or fan base came for my life. I was like, ‘I thought I said something good!’” Remy explained.
The debate regarding whether or not Doja Cat can be classified as a rapper has been ongoing essentially since she stepped into the music industry. However, records such as “Like That,” “Rules,” and “Streets” have demonstrated her endless versatility, merging elements of hip-hop, pop, and R&B. Such artistic displays often blur the lines between rapper and pop star. Nevertheless, with one Grammy and countless other accolades under her belt, her musical capabilities have solidified Doja as one of the most talented acts in the business.
