The Marine Corps is facing backlash online after it posted an image of a combat helmet with rainbow-colored bullets on it in honor of Pride Month.
On the first day of June, which is recognized in the country as the start of Pride Month, the Twitter account for the U.S. Marines posted a tweet honoring the month.
“Throughout June, the USMC takes #Pride in recognizing and honoring the contributions of our LGBTQ service members. We remain committed to fostering an environment free from discrimination, and defend the values of treating all equally, with dignity and respect,” read the tweet. The tweet was accompanied by a photo of a solder’s hat that had rainbow-colored bullets in the hat strap. The phrase “PROUD TO SERVE” was written on the strap.
It didn’t take long for critics to condemn the post with their comments.
“The culture wars are not one the Marines were formed to fight. You represent all Americans & not just Woke socialists weaponizing sexual orientation to attack traditional nuclear family & Christian values. Tolerate, yes. Champion a side in a cultural debate? Not your mission,” wrote one Twitter user in response to the posted tweet.
“Getting killed by a rainbow bullet is so progressive said another Twitter user.
But one person called out the naysayers by mentioning that the U.S. Marines acknowledges most holidays. “Did you also have an issue with their other tweets acknowledging holidays that Marines might celebrate?” Said the Twitter user who added a video from a tweet the Marines posted. The tweet was from 2019 when the U.S. Marines commemorated Easter.
