Jay-Z and Twitter’s founder Jack Dorsey are launching a financial literacy program for residents of Marcy Housing projects.
The Shawn Carter foundation announced they’re teaming with Dorsey to launch the Bitcoin Academy. The academy is a collaboration with Crypto Blockchain Plug and Black Bitcoin Billionaire.
The program will offer classes online and in-person, with dinner served at each class. Residents will receive devices, smartphones, and data plans.

The academy will also offer a “Crypto Kids Camp” for kids for two Saturdays.
“The Shawn Carter Foundation has always been about providing educational access and opening doors of opportunity to communities. No one should be left out or behind,” Gloria Carter says. “We truly appreciate the partnership with Block and Jack Dorsey to bring financially. Specifically, bitcoin education to the Marcy residents. Where I spent many years raising my family.”
In addition, classes for the academy will be available from June 22 to Sept. 7. The classes will include topics “What is Money?,” “What Is Cryptocurrency?,” and “How to Keep Yourself Safe from Scammers.”
“Everyone should be empowered to make informed financial decisions in order to take care of themselves and their families,” Carter added.
Above all, Dorsey and Jay-Z hope to expand the program to other cities.
