A Chicago man was gifted an Audi A8 from a local businessman after heroically saving a man who fell onto the third rail at a CTA train stop.
Anthony Perry, 20, exited a Chicago Transit Authority Red Line car and immediately noticed two men fighting. Authorities said that one of the men was waiting for a train when the other came up and spat in his face, starting the altercation.
Both of the men fell off the platform and continued fighting, according to CBS News. One of the men suffered burns on his leg and abrasions to his mouth. He was taken to an area hospital and is listed in good condition.
But the other party ended up on the third rail, resulting in 600 volts of electricity coursing through his body. “The guy didn’t have no control over his body,” Perry told the outlet. He didn’t think twice about jumping down and helping out while bystanders screamed for help.
“I could’ve kept walking, but I was like, you know what?” Perry said. “I’m not going to keep walking — because God wouldn’t want me to do that,” he said, “so I took action immediately.”
Risking his own life, Perry attempted to help the man off of the third rail. When he touched him, he received a shock through his own body. Led by faith, Perry believes that God put him there at that moment.
The man was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was listed in serious condition.
On Wednesday, local businessman Early Walker surprised Perry with a 2009 Audi. Perry said that the new vehicle would help with his long commute. He’s been taking two buses and a train to get to work after experiencing car trouble.
