Young Thug is urging his fans to sign a petition calling for lyrics and other art forms to be kept out of courtrooms.

The “Best Friend” star recorded a message for his fans that was played at MetLife Stadium on Sunday during Hot 97’s Summer Jam. In the audio, Thug thanked his supporters for standing by him and his YSL signees as they face a massive RICO case. He then directed attendees to the newly launched Protect Black Art petition.

“I always use my music as a form of artistic expression, and now I see that Black artists and rappers don’t have that, you know, freedom. Everybody, please sign the Protect Black Art petition and keep praying for us. I love you all,” Thugger said.

As of Monday evening, the Change.org petition, which was launched by Kevin Liles, has garnered over 20,000 signatures.

“Today, in courtrooms across America, Black creativity and artistry is being criminalized. With increasing and troubling frequency, prosecutors are attempting to use rap lyrics as confessions,” the petition reads.

Young Stoner Life Records also shared a post on their official Instagram inviting fans to fight back against the practice of using songs to build criminal cases.
