Rising Brooklyn star 22Gz was arrested on Sunday for attempted murder related to a shooting earlier this year.
The drill rapper was taken into custody when he landed at John F. Kennedy airport for his Summer Jam performance. The arrest was in relation to a March 6th shooting where a 31-year-old man sustained a gunshot wound to his left foot around 3:30 a.m. outside Club Freeze Cafe in Brooklyn. The victim provided a description of the suspect, but police had not been able to catch up to 22Gz.
Sources told TMZ that the 24-year-old had been in Atlanta since the shooting took place. However, he traveled to New York for the music festival. The “Spin” rapper was also charged with second-degree assault, two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and first-degree reckless endangerment. The New York Police Department says that three people in total were injured in that shooting, and all were admitted to Brookdale University Hospital for treatment. He is being held on $500,000 bail.
22Gz is no stranger to legal drama. In 2017, he spent five months behind bars awaiting trial for second-degree murder charges in Miami. Those charges were eventually dropped.
Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez slammed 22Gz for shooting and said he is “committed to vigorously prosecuting anyone who engages in this criminal conduct.”
